Affiliate disclosure

We earn commission on some links. Here is exactly how that is kept away from the ratings.

The short version

Some links on Hostoholic are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may receive a commission. It costs you nothing extra.

The longer version

Running a comparison site costs money — hosting, tools, and the time to check facts. Affiliate commission is how this one is funded. That creates an obvious conflict of interest, so here is precisely how it is contained:

Commission is not an input to any score. The scoring function receives provider facts and editorial sub-scores. There is no parameter for commission anywhere in it.

Commission does not determine inclusion. Several providers we cover have no affiliate programme we take part in. They appear in shortlists and comparisons on exactly the same basis.

Commission does not determine order. Shortlists are ordered by score, and each page states the criteria used to build it so you can check the list matches.

Negative findings are published anyway. Every provider page has a "what is not good" section, including for providers we earn from.

Affiliate links carry rel="sponsored" and pass through /go/. Pages containing them show a disclosure. If a link does not have those markers, we are not being paid for it.

What we do not do

  • We do not accept payment for reviews, scores or placement
  • We do not run display advertising
  • We do not sell your data
  • We do not add you to a mailing list for using a free tool
